The Unionsgasse is a historic street in Biel/Bienne that showcases the city’s architectural evolution. It features buildings dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, such as the residential and commercial building at Unionsgasse 13, built in 1913 in the Heimatstil style by architect August Eduard Haag. This building once served as the headquarters of Alpina, Union Horlogère AG, a key player in Biel’s watchmaking industry. The main entrance still bears the inscription “Union Horlogère.”

More recently, in 2019, a renovation project at Unionsgasse 4 preserved the historic façade while modernizing the interior to meet contemporary needs. The renovation respected the traditional architectural lines while introducing modern elements, ensuring a harmonious integration into the urban fabric.

Unionsgasse thus reflects Biel/Bienne’s industrial and architectural heritage, blending history with modernity.
